THE 2017 ANNUAL EXHIBITION

The Chilcompton Art Club put on their annual exhibition on Sunday the 22nd October, traditionally it used to be held on a Saturday, but the club could only get the Sunday booking this year, and unfortunately this resulted in lower visitor numbers. The standard of work however, was perhaps one of the best seen in recent years, with over one hundred and thirty paintings put out for display. This year also saw the introduction of prizes for best in certain categories, i.e. Patel, Oils Acrylic etc with the judging being overseen independently by local professional artist Karen George, the results of which will remain a secret until the prize giving at the forthcoming Christmas lunch in December. The tombola stall was a great success, and the proceeds from which, one hundred pounds, will be going toward Pancreatic Cancer Research. On behalf of the committee I would like to thank all the members for their splendid entries, and also for committing their time to help run the event.

CHARLTONS EXHIBITION - DECEMBER 2016

Charltons furniture outlet of First Avenue, Westfield, which first opened its doors to the public last year, has undergone refit and has offered the newly fitted wall spaces to local artists in order to exhibit their work. The first such group to be invited were Chilcompton art club and their exhibition started on Thursday 24th November and will run until just after Christmas. “We are well established in the local area and wanted to give something back to the community.” Said Ross Charlton, Managing director. “When we offered an open invitation to artists back in August we were amazed by the phenomenal response, and as such we are planning to run many exhibitions, with each one lasting for a 6 week period. Exhibition space is offered to display and sell artwork by local artists completely free of charge.”
Club Chairman Hugh Webb stated, “We are delighted to be invited as the first exhibitors for this new initiative by Charltons Furniture. As a club we have a very simple objective, and that is to provide a facility for anyone who has an inclination to have a go at art, to come along to our club on a Wednesday and Friday morning at St. John’s Church Hall, Chilcompton, and sit down with like minded people for a few hours of enjoyment and friendly chit chat. Lack of experience is not an obstacle to joining our group, we have many members who are willing to offer a guiding hand if required. Throughout the year the club also organises opportunities for members to expand their horizons with trips to exhibitions and galleries, occasionally inviting professional artists to come to the club and give demonstrations or hold workshops.
