The Art Club is on the move, Thursday 20th May the committee cleared out the contents of our cupboard in the church hall, and on Friday 21st we deposited them into the new venue, The Chilcompton Sports Club.

Over the next few weeks the committee will be organising the storage and getting familiar with the best way to accommodate the members.

The venue has many plus points for the membership, with easy parking and level access, a kitchen for refreshments, excellent heating and lighting, and also access to outdoor tables and seating on sunny days, and we can have the space for three hour periods on Wednesday and Friday mornings.

The proposed start dates are Wednesday 23rd June and Friday 25th June, then every week thereafter.

Wednesday the 23rd June will be a social morning, giving a chance for members to catch up, have refreshments and bring along any completed works you may have done during the covid crisis.

Some of you may have heard about the refurbishment of our regular meeting place, the St. John's Church Hall, Chilcompton.
The hall owners, The St. John Parish Church Commissioners (PCC) will be undertaking an extensive programme of works, and it is likely that the time frame required to achieve them will be at least 12 months.  Then, following the renovations, the PCC intend to allow a further period of 12 months to see how "church family" activities use the new space for worship and ministry before considering future external lets.
The Art Club Committee are determined to not let our long established, community based art club be disbanded.
To that end we are looking into a permanent move to another local hall in order to continue operating.
Present hall closures, related to the pandemic, means that an immediate solution cannot be found, but as soon as restrictions are lifted, then we hope to make good progress to finding a new venue.
This may mean a change to the old format of Wednesday and Friday mornings, but club members will be kept informed, by both email and telephone, of developments as soon as a solution is agreed.
Meanwhile, please take care, and we shall prevail.

During the late 1980’s a handful of friends-all interested in art, began to meet together with the sole purpose of sharing and enjoying their varied artistic skills.
Soon the idea of sharing their love of art with others in the community, and also encouraging those who had always wanted to paint but had convinced themselves that they couldn’t, to come along and give it a try.
And so the Chilcompton Art Club evolved and became a club officially on 1st January 1993. Our current membership consists of about 30 members

The club has several accomplished artists who are always willing to help those who are just beginning or offering advice if requested.
The members are a group of aspiring artists with varying levels of ability who are there just for the pure enjoyment of painting, and the enjoyment of each others company.

We also have a competition each year within our membership on a chosen theme, in addition to which in order to encourage the development of skills and to experience working in different mediums, we organise regular demonstrations and workshops led by professional artists, or our own members.
You will be assured of a warm welcome if you would like to come and enjoy with us the art of painting.
Melanie Smith: Club Chairman.

Membership is open to anyone, if you want to come along just to see us, then you are welcome to just turn up at one of our weekly sessions.
